CoE AgeCare studies the transformation of ageing and care using novel interdisciplinary perspectives, conjoining the analysis of diversification of everyday life to that of ongoing profound societal and policy change. The CoE analyses older peoples care needs and care policies, population ageing, older people's health and agency, and the changing character of care work in the context of transnationalisation and digitalisation of the ageing society.
Research focus and goals
The Tampere University research groups focuses on
- population ageing, development of health and care needs of older people, care costs and socioeconomic factors, and
- agency of older people and their family members in decision-making in care, health and housing, and agency of authorities in implementing care policies.
The CoE AgeCare increases knowledge of the effects of ageing of the population, digitalisation and transnationalisation on societies at the national and international level, and of the daily lives of older people and their close ones in changing societies. The CoE AgeCare provides knowledge on demographic trends and development of health and functional ability of older people, as well care needs, care costs and ethnic heterogenisation of the older population.
CoE AgeCare provides also knowledge on care policies, policy-making and care work to find out how ageing of the population is taken into account in these fields, and how to best meet the care needs of older population. To develop care policies the CoE AgeCare aims to increase understanding of challenges of care work and care workers well-being. One central aim is to increase understanding of agency and the choices older people and their close ones make in their daily lives in regard to care needs, housing and living environment, use of services and technology.
