Hanna Mielismäki

My research focuses on how AI-based and digital solutions can be used in a human-centered and socially sustainable way—particularly in the context of health and social services. Within interdisciplinary and international research collaborations, I bring a perspective grounded in responsible AI, technology ethics, and the digitalisation of public service systems.

I am a researcher and the national coordinator for the Finnish contribution to the Horizon Europe project ISEDA (Innovative Solutions to Eliminate Domestic Abuse). This international project brings together partners from nine European countries and a multidisciplinary network of experts, including AI specialists, game developers, psychologists, law enforcement professionals, and researchers in health and social sciences. My work focuses on research design, ethical processes, and stakeholder collaboration. Tampere University also leads the work package responsible for developing EU-wide policy recommendations on the prevention of and response to domestic abuse.

In the DigiSOS project (Encountering and addressing digital violence in social services and health care), I examine how digitalisation and AI-based technologies intersect with issues of safety, ethics, and violence prevention in welfare service systems. Previously, I contributed to the national KOVÄ project, which examined the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on domestic violence and service accessibility. 

My academic background includes master’s degrees in both sociology and social work, and I am currently pursuing a doctoral dissertation in social policy. My research interests include domestic and technology-facilitated abuse, the digitalisation of welfare services, and inclusive, ethically grounded digital transformation. I bring a human-centered and systems-level perspective to digital development, supported by experience in qualitative research, ethical governance, and cross-sector collaboration.
