Open UAS route studies offered in English
What are open UAS route studies?
The scope of the route studies is 30–60 credits. The studies mainly consist of courses from the first six months or first year of the degree programme. You will study in the same group as degree students, and the studies are no different from degree studies.
Once you have completed the required number of credits by the end of the semester, you can apply to become a degree student through the open route application. If you are applying for a master’s degree programme, you must also meet the previous education and work experience requirements.
Completing the route studies does not guarantee admission as a degree student. However, if you make good progress in your studies, you have a strong chance of being admitted. After completing the route studies, you can also apply to the corresponding degree programme at other universities of applied sciences if the programme is available through their open route application.
If you are admitted as a degree student, the credits you have earned through the route studies will be transferred to your degree, and you can continue your studies directly from where you left off.
Further information about the scope, content and teaching methods of each route is available on the individual programme pages. You can also explore the curricula if you wish.

Are route studies a good fit for me?
Route studies may be a good option for you if:
- you want to begin your studies soon without having to wait for the next joint application period.
- you want to apply to become a degree student without an entrance examination or pre-assignment.
- you can commit to studying for a period of six months to one year.
- you can participate in teaching as required. Some route studies require full-time attendance on weekdays, while others use a blended learning format.
- you can afford to study. Route studies do not entitle you to financial aid for students, and studying while receiving unemployment benefits is only possible in rare cases.
- you have sufficient language skills. Route studies taught in Finnish require good spoken and written Finnish. Similarly, programmes taught in English require fluency in English.
- you are already in Finland or are able to enter the country. Please note that you cannot obtain a visa to Finland on the basis of route studies, and the studies require attendance on campus.

How to apply to route studies?
- 1
Explore the options and choose one route
You can apply for only one route study option during each application round, so take time to explore the available options beforehand. The page for each route study option provides more detailed information about the number of available places and the selection process.
- 2
Enrol as soon as the enrolment period begins
The number of places in route studies is limited. Unless otherwise stated, we allocate places in the order in which enrolments are received.
Enrolment takes place on the Applicant’s Desktop. You will find the correct link on the page for each route study option. You can open the Applicant’s Desktop before the enrolment period begins, but you cannot add route studies to your study basket in advance.
Once the enrolment period has begun, follow these steps:
- If you already have the Applicant’s Desktop open, refresh the page if necessary.
- Add the route studies to your study basket and select the link at the top of the page to proceed with enrolment.
- You will be asked to accept the cancellation terms and confirm that you have read any prior knowledge requirements included in the programme description on the website.
- You can enter your personal details or use the Suomi.fi e-Identification service to identify yourself with your online banking credentials or a mobile certificate.
- After entering your details or identifying yourself, confirm your enrolment.
- 3
Pay for the route studies
Route studies cost 300 €. You must pay the study fee immediately when you enrol.
- 4
Check your email
If you are offered a place in route studies immediately after enrolling, you do not need to accept it separately. You will receive more detailed instructions about starting your studies by email at a later date.
If you are placed on a waiting list, you will receive updates on the enrolment process by email. Check your email daily, as applicants offered a place from the waiting list have 24 hours to accept it. Remember to check your spam folder as well, as automated system messages may sometimes be directed there.
Do you study in upper secondary education in Finland?
If you attend a upper secondary school that has a cooperation agreement with TAMK, you can complete route studies as part of your upper secondary qualification.
At the moment, we only have one upper secondary route available in English: International Business route for Tredu's Business Students.
You can also explore other options taught in Finnish for general upper secondary students (page in Finnish) and vocational students (page in Finnish).
