Opening ceremony of the academic year 2025–2026 of Tampere University

Welcome to the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2025/26 at Tampere University, held in the Main Auditorium on the city centre campus on Tuesday 2 September 2025, starting at 12.

Please register for the event via this link by Tuesday 26 August 2025.

Programme

• Doors to the Main Auditorium open at 12:00.
• The academic procession enters, accompanied by music.
• Opening speech by Keijo Hämäläinen, President of Tampere University.
• Keynote speech by Ilmari Nurminen, Mayor of  Tampere.
• Greetings from the Student Union of Tampere University (TREY) by Chair Laura Heino.
• Cultural performance by  Sorin Sirkus (Kanelia Kähkölä, Joakim Mikkonen and Ella Ruusumaa) and Tango Revolution.
• The procession exits the auditorium, followed by the audience.
• Cake, coffee and sparkling wine served in the lobby of the Main Auditorium.

The dress code for the audience is informal wear. The procession participants will wear a dark suit and doctoral hat (carried by hand).

The day of the opening ceremony will culminate in the kick-off party for the academic year at Fame Club, organised by the Student Union TREY. More information about the programme and tickets.

In addition, a badge fair for students will be held in the Main Building (Päätalo) along the hallway near Alakuppila café. Association badges for student overalls will be available at the fair.
