The negotiations conducted by the national consortium FinELib have not reached a mutual understanding, leading to a situation where there will be no valid contract in 1.1.2024. As a result, access to the articles published by ACS in 2024 will be terminated. The right to use the open access publishing benefits provided in the agreement will also end.

How can I access the articles published by ACS?

Tampere University Library retains long-term usage rights to ACS journals from 1996 to 2023. This means that all articles available now will remain so in 2024.

However, the articles published in the year 2024 will not be included and there will be no access to them via the Library database. You can utilize interlibrary loans services for individual articles.

I am currently publishing my article in and ACS journal – what should I do?

If your article has been accepted for publication in an ACS journal in 2023 (date of acceptance), it can be published openly as part of the current agreement. If the acceptance of the article falls into 2024, open access publishing will no longer be possible under the agreement.

If your article’s date of acceptance falls into the year 2024, Tampere University Library will cover the article processing charge if certain criteria are met. Read more about these criteria in our guide.
