Marja-Leena Linne
About me
Marja-Leena Linne is Professor of Medical Technology and Biotechnology at Tampere University and leads the Computational Neuroscience Research Group. Her research lies at the interface of neuroscience, biotechnology, and medical technology, where she develops experimental and computational approaches to understand brain function and disease.
Her group combines computational modeling, electrophysiology, advanced microscopy and artificial intelligence to investigate how interactions between neurons, glial cells, and the cerebral vasculature shape brain function, plasticity, learning, memory, and neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders. By integrating experimental data with biologically realistic multiscale models, the group develops multiscale simulation platforms and digital brain twins that support neuroscience research, neurotechnology, and future precision medicine. As a secondary research focus, the group explores how neurobiological mechanisms can inspire the development of energy-efficient algorithms and computational methods.
Linne contributes to the European research infrastructure EBRAINS and collaborates widely with international research, training, and education networks. She is committed to advancing interdisciplinary neuroscience by bringing together biotechnology, medical technology, engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence.
