When deploying a new instrument or a new procedure for generating research data, it is useful to consider the entire data lifecycle, from the moment the data is generated until it is archived or securely destroyed. Aspects to consider include the security of data processing, the amount of data, data retention periods in different situations and, in particular, designating the people responsible for the instrument and the data it produces. 

In many cases, it is necessary to establish an automated connection between the measuring instrument that produces the data and the information system that stores it. This may require specific data transfer and IT solutions.
