IT services for research

We provide IT services for researchers in the Tampere Universities community spanning the entire life cycle of studies. In many respects, the general information management services are suitable tools for researchers, but services and capacity have also been acquired specifically to support research.

Storage services

Tampere Universities offers you a wide range of file storage services. It is important to ensure the security of stored data and encrypt it when necessary. Various systems are available for collecting research data. You should also plan the data lifecycle carefully when storing data.

Processing research data

We provide support for computing and processing when your own desktop or laptop is too inefficient for the task. This may be the case if data analysis takes several hours and prevents you from using your computer for other work, or if RAM or storage space proves insufficient. We can help you move the computation to another processing environment.

Artificial Intelligence in Research

Researchers and research groups must comply with many guidelines and regulations that affect the use of artificial intelligence. The Artificial Intelligence and Research page provides guidance to help researchers and responsible research leaders interpret guidelines and legislation. The page also includes practical examples of how to use AI at different stages of the research process. In research, the possible solution models vary depending on whether the intention is to use AI-based solutions as a research tool in a more traditional style (ML, neural networks) or to utilize, for example, LLM-based AI chat in normal everyday tasks as a kind of AI assistant.

Tampere Universities provides Microsoft Copilot Chat for staff and students. Other approved AI-assisted applications are listed on the AI-assisted applications page. There are currently many solutions on the market that are often still in the development stage, making it difficult to acquire them securely and in compliance with licensing terms. Solution consulting is intended especially for situations when there are no suitable ready-made solutions among the services offered in the Universities community.
