Included in the TUNI user right.

Using the OneDrive software

You can use the service using OneDrive application installed on your computer. The application downloads online files and synchronises them with your computer. Any changes made to the files synchronised with the computer are saved in the online storage as well. The changes made in the OneDrive browser are synchronised with the files in the computer’s OneDrive folder. We have already installed the OneDrive software on all the staff computers. You can see the application in the Start menu of the computer as well as the icon on your desktop.

Editing files using Office software

If you want to save a file in your own OneDrive for Business online storage for editing, select OneDrive - TUNI.fi in the Save As menu in the Office application.

Using a mobile device

You can download the application on your mobile device allowing you to access files on OneDrive. You can use Office applications to edit Office files saved to OneDrive.

N.B!

  • Please note that OneDrive for Business is not the same service as the OneDrive targeted at consumers.
  • Deleting a file from the computer’s OneDrive folder also deletes it from the cloud service.
  • You can restore deleted files for 90 days. After that, you can no longer restore the files.
  • You must transfer your files and folders to the location of your choice before the right to access expires.
  • If you're sharing files with an external user, be sure to tell them how to enable multifactor authentication.

More information about OneDrive for Business storage service

Personal P: drive

All TUNI users have a personal P drive a.k.a home directory on the network disk. It is automatically available as P drive on TUNI Windows computers and virtual desktops. On TUNI Mac computers, access it with Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub -> Websites -> P-Drive. On TUNI Linux computers, it is available in path /tuni/home/<account>.

Use primarily OneDrive to store personal files instead of the P drive.

Cloud services have reduced the need for a P drive, but it may still be necessary for the following reasons:

  • Saving sensitive work files that can't be saved in online storage space (see OneDrive compatibility above on this page)
  • Working files in computer labs, if using OneDrive with an Internet browser is unsuitable
  • Research projects may have special needs. Even then, it is worth evaluating whether a group folder on S drive would be better than the personal P drive. In this case, the research data will also be available to the remaining group when the staff changes. Read more on the page Group folders.

Available disk space

The default quota of P drive is 100 GB.

You can view the available space by right-clicking P-drive and selecting Properties. On TUNI Mac computer use the command df -h /Volumes/home/<account> and on TUNI Linux computers df -h /tuni/home/<account>.

Backups

All data saved on the network drives is backed up daily. During office hours, also a hourly snapshot is recorded. You can recover a lost file from the network drive if you deleted it less than 3 months ago. You can restore the version you need. Instructions: FAQ - Storage services.

Connection problems

Note that using the P drive requires having TUNI VPN connected.

If your P drive is not available, open TUNI Tools folder on your desktop and double-click the shortcut MapDrive-TUNI-Home (drive P).
