General principles for the use of AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly integrated into the work, teaching, learning and research activities carried out across Tampere Universities. At the same time, the use of AI raises some practical questions that users need clear answers to: Which AI tools can I use? What types of data can be entered into AI tools? What responsibilities accompany the use of AI? Where can I find user support? Tampere Universities provide a wide range of AI-related guidelines, services, instructions and support materials. However, from a user’s perspective, it may not always be clear where to begin or which guidance applies in a particular situation.

This page presents the general principles for the use of AI at Tampere Universities, which set out the key principles, responsibilities and guidance that apply to the use of AI in our day-to-day activities. The principles are available for download as a PDF document and are also presented on relevant intranet pages. Users can choose to either download the full document or access the key information through the intranet.

The AI Policy sets out a shared framework

The AI Policy of Tampere Universities establishes the key principles, responsibilities and operational rules governing the use of AI. The general principles translate this policy into practical instructions. They do not replace the AI Policy but complement it by providing more detailed guidance on how the policy is applied in our day-to-day activities.

Teaching, learning and research

The general principles for the use of AI apply to all members of the Tampere Universities community. In addition, more detailed instructions may apply to teaching, learning and research activities relating to, for example, studies, student assessment, the processing of research data, and discipline-specific practices. Any such instructions must be primarily followed alongside the general principles, which are designed to provide a shared foundation for the safe, responsible, ethical and appropriate use of AI across our community.
