How long have you been in Tampere and what brought you here originally?
Initially, I came to Finland to work as an Aupair and to live with a Finnish host family. After a year of living in Finland, I decided to stay and study in Tampere! I have been living in Tampere for two years now.
What TAMK degree do you study and why did you choose it?
I am now starting the third year of my Bachelor’s Degree Programme in International Business.
I chose this degree because it offers so many opportunities, even already during my studies. I wanted to get to know people from various cultural backgrounds, have projects with companies and get prepared for an international career! The courses as well as the opportunity to go abroad for one semester were the main reasons I chose International Business in TAMK!
How would you describe Tampere as a student city?
Tampere is a lovely student city! There are so many different things to discover; a lot of parks, lakes and of course a lot of bars and restaurants which offer student discounts! The city is not too big to get lost in, yet it has a lot to offer. Also, the public transport is super convenient.
Have you had memorable successes / epic failures in settling in Tampere? How did you overcome difficulties?
Overall, everything has always been very smooth for me! At the same time, I always have had support whenever I encountered issues with e.g. moving, uncertainties about residence permit, and of course questions regarding my studies, internships, and recently the thesis! Firstly, I got support from my host family and now from my TAMK lecturers. Friends have always been there for me as well.
Everyone is super helpful in Finland! As probably everyone studying at TAMK will hear: communication is key! So go ahead and ask your questions, people will be happy to help you!
To whom would you recommend Tampere as a place to study and why?
Everyone! Tampere is diverse and offers something for each of us. Everything is possible here. Tampere and TAMK will give you a great start for everything you plan for your life. I have always felt welcome here and there is a feeling of belonging to a community. Hopefully, soon we’ll be able to daily visit the campus again, it is a very nice place to be! :)
