Hi, my name is Asraful. You can reach out to me on Unibuddy if you have any questions!

Tell us about yourself and your studies

Hi, I am Asraful. However, you may call me Mr. Chowdhury also. Which is my family name. I am from Bangladesh, a land of immense opportunity and potential. I moved to Tampere in August 2022. I am currently in the first year of the master's degree program in Software, Web & Cloud, and Computing Sciences. Apart from that, I am learning new things every day from different courses. The teaching process is so different here but intuitive and easy to catch. The combination of the flexible class hours, group work and practical exercise sessions make it a result-oriented study and enjoyable for me.

Why did you choose your current programme?

Let me summarize how I choose it. I was on a business trip in Finland back in 2015. Fortunately, I had a chance to visit Tampere University Heravanta campus at that time. The facilities for studies convinced me that I will come to study here someday. Most recently I was planning for a suitable course which resonates with my work experience in the software industry I came across this Software, Web and Cloud which is a perfect match for me. So, I studied almost one week about the course details and most importantly, it's combining the industry practice and theoretical aspects of Software Engineering/Cloud/Web. That's what convinced me to choose this specific programme.

Can you share with us your experiences in Finland and Tampere?

I feel welcomed in the city of Tampere as an international student. Equal opportunity for higher-study and teachers' approach towards students amazed me without any doubt.

The City of Tampere welcomed me with green and blue lagoons. I can walk and think about the well-being of the human race. Moreover, the weather experience is so serene. I am from one of the most densely populated cities (Dhaka) in the world which is full of activity and I am expecting activities. Amazingly, I found lots of events in the city including the film festival, summertime events, dance shows, voluntary activities and different student organisations to choose from to work with. Indeed, it was a pleasant experience for me.

I would mention the public transportation and helpful people of Tampere. It's challenging for any newcomer in a new city. However, I didn't face any hardship at all, rather got help whenever I asked the right person.

What would you say to someone planning to study and live in Tampere?

I would say explore and learn about my new home base city of Tampere and I am confident you will choose Tampere University as your higher-study destination.

What is your favourite place in the city to go for fun with friends?

There are many places where I would love to go and have fun with my friends. One of them is Pyynikki Park and the watch tower. Moreover, I love trails to walk and be in nature. Sometimes in the evening, I would love to hang out with my friends in different traditional cafes of Tampere and have fun.
