Learning Outcomes

- After complementing the Master's degree program in Photonic Technologies, the student
- has a solid overall knowledge in Photonics and is able to understand the role of Photonics in current and future societal challenges
- has expert knowledge in a well-defined area within Photonics, e.g., Materials for Photonics or Advanced Laser Technology
- has insight to the interface between fundamental optical phenomena, optical materials and modern photonic technologies
- is able to contribute to new scientific insights and technological innovations in photonics
- is familiar with the principles of experimental work and is able to work in a laboratory and to design experimental setups
- is prepared to apply photonics in various application fields and to acquire the required additional skills for that
- is able to apply his/her skill base and scientific approach to address timely and concrete tasks
- is able to apply scientific methods to interpret information, to make conclusions out of such information, and to report results
- is able to use language, communication, and collaborative skills at various working environments, scientific research, and societal interaction
- can work in a multicultural team and has the required intercultural and international skills as well as language skills
- is able to work as expert, developer, and leader in multidisciplinary tasks involving photonics

Structure

Common Core Studies, 10 cr

Learning Outcomes

- All student take the courses Introduction to Graduate Studies, Thesis seminar and two Finnish language courses, and the course Thesis Writing. The student may also include a course on optics or a suitable course on mathematics or chemistry to complement the knowledge level acquired in the previous degree.

All students complete the module Fundamentals of Optics and Photonics (25 ECTS) and the module Light-matter Interaction (20 ECTS). Students choose one specialization module: either Photonic Materials (15 ECTS) or Ultrafast Photonics and lasers (15 ECTS).
