COMP.SGN-S03

Advanced Studies in Signal Processing and Machine Learning as Free Choice Studies, At least 30 cr

Tampere University
Description
The module is divided into three sub-modules focusing on 1) vision and imaging, 2) audio and signal processing, and 3) artificial intelligence. The major consists of common courses (10cr) and courses from one of the three sub-modules (20cr).

The students are encouraged to personalize their study plans in which case they must confirm their courses from the module responsible persons.

Signal processing and machine learning majors are suitable for ambitious students who are interested in the cutting edge technologies of information technology and computer science. The central study fields are image, audio, speech and natural language processing, computer vision and machine learning, and robotics.

The module provides students with both strong fundamental knowledge and practical skills on the technologies covered in our courses and investigated in our research groups. Many students join our research groups during their studies.

It is possible to take this module as minor by taking all compulsory courses and the total of at least 20 credits.

Objectives
  • The student knows how to adopt, adapt and improve signal processing and machine learning methods for real problems.
  • The student is able to find state-of-the-art methods and adapt them to to solve practical problems.
  • The student knows the tools (Matlab) and software libraries (Python) for machine learning and signal processing problems.
  • The student knows how to apply machine learning and signal processing methods in audio, speech, language, vision and robotic applications.
