Uses of the Past in Foreign Policy-Making: the Eastern European Context, Luento-opetus, Uses of the Past in Foreign Policy-Making

The students will explore the manifold ways of how political actors shape foreign policy through references to past events. By taking examples from Eastern European countries, we will discuss a number of mechanisms that shed light on the link between memory practices and foreign policy in a complex and reciprocal way and analyze the concepts of identity, narrative, security, trauma and transitional justice.
