Teoreettisen yhteiskuntatutkimuksen työseminaari, 0–10 op

This seminar is a sequel of the reading group on Machiavelli’s Prince organized during past Spring. This time we discuss on Machiavelli’s Discourses on Livy in one long meeting on Friday October 15^th (reserve the time from 10:15 to 14:45). Participants will read the book in advance and responsibilities to introduce different parts of the text for group-discussion in the seminar are divided between the participants. Each introduction is a 5-minute talk on a specified fragment. The purpose of the intro is not to repeat what is said in the text (everybody has already read it) but, instead, direct attention to one or two parts and/or ideas which astonished the presenter, seem to be especially noteworthy or need more clarification. After 5 minutes the floor will be opened to everybody. The seminar will be a Zoom meeting.

Credits: 5 credits altogether. 3 credits for reading the book, the 5-minute introduction, and active participation to the seminar. 2 more credits on an essay of about 1 000 words the topic of which will be agreed upon with the coordinator or alternatively the seminar on Prince (organized in past Spring).
