  • OASIS Talk by Edmond Y. Chang: Gaming While Asian - Now with More Analog!
    05/11/2026  12:00 - 13:00

    Thursday 5th November, 12-1pm
Gaming While Asian: Now with More Analog!
    Edmond Y. Chang, Ohio University

This interactive presentation weaves together 1) an analysis of gamic tropes and stereotypes of Asian bodies, identities, and narratives in games and other media, 2) close playings of a range of analog (and digital) games, 3) an autotheoretical account of growing up as a queer, Asian American gamer in mostly straight, white spaces, and 4) creative ways to play, desire, hope, and imagine how to center Asian American identities and experiences in gaming and to interrogate the personal, representational, and ludic ramifications of reading, writing, and “gaming while Asian.”

Edmond Y. Chang is an Associate Professor of English at Ohio University.  He is the co-author, with Timothy Welsh, of Video Games, Literature, and Close Playing (Routledge, 2025) and the creator of Tellings, a high fantasy TTRPG and Archaea, a padded-weapon LARP.  He is also Editor-in-Chief for Analog Game Studies.
