World cleanup day
On 20 September, people around the world will celebrate World Cleanup Day, an international day of action that encourages everyone to take practical steps for the environment and reflect on how waste can be reduced in everyday life. This year's event places special emphasis on responsible consumption, the circular economy, and waste prevention.

Members of the Tampere Universities community can easily take part through everyday actions. You might pick up litter along your commute, help tidy shared spaces, reduce food waste, or carry out a digital clean-up on your work computer before the weekend. Even small actions can make a difference when many people participate.

The Tampere University Library is, by its very nature, a pioneer of the circular economy: a single resource acquisition can be shared and used by countless members of our community. The library also supports sustainability across our community by providing everyone with access to information, research, learning opportunities, and shared resources.

Keeping our digital environment tidy is just as important as caring for our physical surroundings. Unnecessary emails, outdated files, duplicate documents, and unused recordings all create digital waste that makes information harder to find and increases storage requirements unnecessarily. Digital clean-up is one of the easiest sustainability actions we can take at work: spending just a few minutes organising files can save time, improve information discoverability, and reduce unnecessary data storage. At the same time, it helps make shared storage areas clearer, more accessible, and more useful for everyone.

We encourage all members of the Tampere Universities community to take one small clean-up action on 20 September, whether it is placing litter in the correct bin, organising your workspace, or decluttering your email folders. Every action, no matter how small, helps move us towards a cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable everyday life.
