The goal of the two-year Numobio project (Advanced NUmerical MOdelling for rapid development of BIOcomposite applications) running within the ExpandFibre Ecosystem was to take a significant leap in order to digitalise biocomposite design for rapid and inexpensive development of new materials and products for a wide range of industry sectors.
While VTT focused on developing a material modeling tool set according to real life needs of company use cases and created multiscale modeling chain from molecular and microscale level to component and system-level analysis, Tampere University developed single fibre testing with microrobotics.
The aim in the development of microrobotic single fibre testing was to have a deeper understanding of the fibre and fibre-matrix interface propertie, and we particularly focused on interface testing of short natural fibres. During the project, we developed and demonstrated microrobtic peel-testing of pulp fibres.
