NEFIBER: Nanoparticle-Embedded glass FIBERs: pioneering multifunctional materials for advanced photonics applications

Tampere University
Duration of project1.9.2026–31.8.2029
NEFIBER

NEFIBER project intends to develop the first commercially viable state-of-the-art functional materials by combining the assets of glass and nanoparticles (NPs) to develop nanocomposite fiber for light sources, sensors and Faraday rotators applications. Such nanocomposite fibers allow the perfect combination of the excellent optical, magnetic and magneto-optical responses of NPs and the unmatched low optical losses and shape of glass fibers. Furthermore, NEFIBER will demonstrate that fiber can also be obtained from RE-containing material waste and will be ecofriendly.
