ForHer

Iida Kalakoski is a founding member of the ForHer research group and the principal investigator of the Kone Foundation–funded research project The Repair Shift: In Search of Resource-Wise Construction. Kalakoski’s research interests focus on building conservation, the prevention of demolition, and building repair, from both scholarly and societal engagement perspectives. Together with Riina Sirén, she is a member of the Loruja rakennusperinnölle working group, which promotes architectural heritage through interdisciplinary and boundary-crossing artistic practices. Kalakoski and Sirén’s non-fiction book about the culture of building demolition was published in February 2026. 

Mari-Sohvi Miettinen is an architect (Mac), researcher and artist (BA) living and working in Tampere, Finland. She works as a University Instructor in Tampere University School of Architecture, teaching Architectural Design. Her doctoral research studies the potential of Finnish Wilderness Cabins—an intriguing example of Finnish cultural heritage and nature relationship—as imaginative tools for cultural sustainability transformation. As an architect, she is curious about the margins and peripheries of the built environment and finding ways to care for the built and the unbuilt. She is a co-founder of ForHer research group and The Cost of Demolition initiative and runs her own practice, Arkkitehtistudio Patio. Her Toisaalta Ensemble with Kimmo Hokkanen explores ways for imagining alternative futures utilizing methods of art and pedagogy.

Verna Hahtola is an architect (MSc) and doctoral researcher living in Tampere, Finland. Her doctoral dissertation examines the effects of consumption habits on the preservation and renovation of buildings. Hahtola is interested in patina, the value of newness, and where the line between the new and the old lies. In her master's thesis, Hahtola examined social media discussions related to classicism-inspired and neo-traditional contemporary architecture. She is intrigued by how people experience time through architecture. She studies buildings that are overlooked – the ones considered neither new enough nor old enough. She has worked in the field of cultural heritage preservation at a regional museum and at the Finnish heritage agency. She is one of the founding members of the ForHerresearch group and part of the research project The Repair Shift: In Search of Resource-Wise Construction funded by Kone Foundation. 

Enni Heiskanen is an architect and a founding member of ForHer. She works as a doctoral researcher in the Kone Foundation–funded research project The Repair Shift: In Search of Resource-Wise Construction.
