Aerosol and Cloud Particle Optics

Sininen taivas, jossa aurinko paistaa pilvien läpi.

The Aerosol and Cloud Particle Optics Group investigates how atmospheric particles interact with light and how these interactions affect air quality, weather and climate. We develop optical instruments and combine laboratory experiments, field observations and physical modelling, while our comprehensive aerosol optical measurements draw on both in-house and commercial instruments. These capabilities include photoacoustic methods for air quality monitoring and hyper-angular polarimetry for cloud particles. By linking particle structure to absorption, scattering and polarization, we improve atmospheric observations, remote-sensing retrievals, and weather and climate models.
