Administrative Science

The purpose of the administrative science research group is to study public policy, organizations, and management from multiple perspectives and theoretical standings. Administrative science is characterized by a tradition of  both theoretical and practical research. Therefore, the research topics of administrative science are also varied, particularly depending on the development of theoretical advances, changes in (public) organizations and management practices as well as the ongoing reform trends.

Members of the research group lead and/or act as partners in several different research projects related to the key research areas. These include both basic research projects (e.g. funded by the Research Council of Finland) and applied research projects. The projects are funded from both Finnish and international funding sources. Examplary projects include:

  • BRIDPOL - Policy Value Amidst Hybridity. The purpose of Academy of Finland -funded research project BRIDPOL – Policy value amidst hybridity is to is to contribute to a novel theoretical-conceptual understanding of the links between policy-making, value creation, and hybridity.
  • CitiNext is a research and development project jointly prepared by Business Finland, Tampere University, the University of Turku, and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, focusing on defining sustainable and scalable service and business logics, as well as management practices, in a human-centric Citiverse. 
  • GOGOS (Research Council of Finland ACTIVE –programme) studies value creation and desctruction through good governance in sports governance. 
  • ProDigial and INTO projects produce tools to improved productivity and the utilization of digitalization throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure. They promote evidence-based decision-making and innovative financing models for the implementation of large-scale public projects, particularly infrastructure projects. 

The phenomena that are the focus of administrative science are therefore strongly present in society and its organizations. Therefore administrative scientific knowledge has been utilized in the reform and development of especially state organizations and municipalities. 

The group collaborates between many international and national universties and research institutions.
