In his doctoral dissertation, Viacheslav Zakharov investigated how electric drives influence the performance and fault diagnosis of hydraulic systems in mobile machinery. He demonstrated that motor control strategies and drive configurations affect system dynamics and fault detection accuracy. An experimentally validated AI-based method enables the identification of both individual and combined electrical and hydraulic faults using only electric motor current signals. These findings offer opportunities to improve machinery reliability, reduce downtime and maintenance costs, and enable hydraulic condition monitoring without additional hydraulic sensors.
The doctoral dissertation titled On the Role of the Electric Drive in Determining Performance and Diagnostic Properties of Direct-Driven Hydraulic Systems by Viacheslav Zakharov will be publicly examined in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University on 27 November 2026. The dissertation is in the field of engineering.
The Opponents will be Professor Marcus Geimer from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, and Dr Bernd Winkler from Linz Center of Mechatronics, Austria. The Custos will be Associate Professor Tatiana Minav from the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University.
