Tuukka Ahoniemi’s inaugural lecture highlighted the importance of industrial sales for Finnish technology companies
Professor of Practice Tuukka Ahoniemi’s inaugural lecture at Tampere University highlighted the central role of sales, customer understanding and value creation in the success of Finnish technology and industrial companies. His lecture, “Electricity Comes from the Socket, Money Comes from Sales,” formed part of the University’s New Professors’ Inaugural Lectures on 11 May 2026.

Tampere University’s new professors introduced themselves to the academic community, stakeholders and the wider public at the New Professors’ Inaugural Lectures held on Monday, 11 May 2026. The lectures took place across the University’s three campuses — City Centre, Hervanta and Kauppi — and brought together newly appointed professors from several faculties. At Hervanta Campus, in Festia Small Hall 1, Professor Tuukka Ahoniemi from the Faculty of Management and Business gave his inaugural lecture titled “Electricity Comes from the Socket, Money Comes from Sales.” In his accessible and engaging lecture, Ahoniemi focused on the role of sales, customer understanding and commercial success in technology and industrial companies. His lecture was part of the morning programme, after which the University community gathered for a joint afternoon celebration at the City Centre Campus. The celebration included a ceremonial procession, an opening speech by Rector Keijo Hämäläinen, speeches by two new professors, the presentation of flowers to all new professors, and a musical performance.

Tuukka Ahoniemi was appointed Professor of Practice in Sales of Investment Products and Technology Services at Tampere University in 2025. He began his position on 1 June 2025 in the Industrial Engineering and Management Unit. His professorship is part of a broader industrial sales initiative launched by Tampere University in collaboration with the Tampere Chamber of Commerce and a wide network of business partners. The aim of the initiative is to strengthen sales expertise, customer-oriented value creation and international commercial success in Finnish technology and industrial companies. Ahoniemi has emphasized that sales in technical fields should not be understood as a separate or isolated function, but as a central part of how organizations understand customers, create value and bring complex technologies successfully to the market.

Ahoniemi’s academic and professional background combines engineering, software, teaching, commercialization and business leadership. He received his Master of Science in Engineering in 2008 and Doctor of Science in Technology in 2015 from Tampere University of Technology, where his doctoral dissertation focused on software engineering education. Before joining Tampere University as Professor of Practice, he held teaching positions at Tampere University of Technology and worked as a technical trainer in the corporate world. He has also built a long career in international software product companies, including experience in Silicon Valley, where he lived from 2011 to 2013. In industry, Ahoniemi has worked extensively in commercialization, sales and management roles, most recently serving as CEO of Tuxera Oy and, before that, as Senior Vice President of Strategy at Qt Group Oyj. Through this combination of academic expertise and practical leadership experience, Ahoniemi brings to Tampere University a strong working-life perspective on how engineers and technology professionals can become key contributors to commercial success.
