Light-based technologies enable the solutions of the future

Technologies based on light are an invisible yet essential part of our everyday lives. They enable fast data transmission, medical imaging and many other core functions of society. Photonics—the field focused on the generation, control and detection of light—is one of the most important key technologies of the 21st century. Its significance continues to grow alongside emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and quantum solutions. Donate and be part of developing technologies that have a wide-ranging impact on society and industry.

At Tampere University, we develop light-based solutions for the future

At our university, we advance cutting-edge photonics technologies that support industrial renewal, digital infrastructure and the development of healthcare. Our research combines fundamental scientific expertise with practical applications—with the goal of delivering solutions that are both technologically advanced and societally impactful.

Noodi’s new experimental research center strengthens our work, particularly in areas where photonics plays a key role in future innovations.

Our research focuses on:

  • Advanced laser technologies: We develop lasers used in areas such as industry, medicine, and precision measurement.
  • Structured light and light control: We enable new ways of using light in communications, imaging, and identification.
  • Quantum photonics: We build solutions that support the development of quantum technologies and highly precise measurement methods.
  • Integrated photonic chip solutions: We design energy-efficient microchips needed for applications such as data transmission, sensing, and industrial processes.

Information for donors

Fundraising permit

Tampere University Foundation sr, which operates as Tampere University, has a fundraising permit. Donated funds will be used to support activities described in section 2 of the Finnish Universities Act. Donated funds can also be added to the University’s basic capital, and the generated revenues will be used to support activities described in section 2 of the Universities Act. The fundraising permit was issued by the National Police Board of Finland on 15 May 2020. The permit will remain in force indefinitely.

Permit number: RA/2020/566
