Climate change is transforming Europe – and demands immediate innovations

Europe is the fastest-warming continent in the world. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent, seasons are shifting and environmental pressures are increasing. The impacts extend to health, the economy and societal stability – and they affect us all. A deteriorating environment is increasing illness and premature deaths, while also weakening Europe’s competitiveness and its ability to respond to global crises. New innovations are needed now. Donate and join us in building a sustainable future.

At Tampere University, we develop solutions for a sustainable future

At our university, we create solutions that support the green transition and strengthen the resilience of society. Our work brings together science, technology and practical applications, with the goal of a Europe that is fossil-free, competitive and resilient. Our research focuses on:

Resource-efficient circular economy:

  • Safe recovery of water, nutrients, and metals
  • Removal of harmful substances, such as microplastics
  • Development of sustainable biochemicals and materials

Sustainable and resilient energy systems:

  • Hydrogen production and storage
  • Next-generation batteries
  • Energy storage solutions
  • Low-temperature energy technologies
  • Systems that can withstand disruptions and crises
