Support for learning gives children the opportunity to succeed

Every child has the right to receive support for their learning when it is needed. Today, approximately one in four pupils in basic education needs support for learning and schooling. Special education lays the foundation for success, inclusion and confidence in the future. Timely support creates a pathway to success — not one of coping alone.

Donate to support special education

Help us ensure that all types of learners receive the support they need from qualified teachers. Your support strengthens research and the education of special education teachers. Donating is easy and secure via our online donation form.

Why your donation matters

  • The need for special education is growing rapidly. About one in four pupils in basic education needs support during their school path, and the need has increased significantly over recent decades. Around one in ten upper secondary and higher education students also need support for learning difficulties.
  • The type of support needed is diverse. In addition to challenges in reading, writing, and mathematics, there is an increasing need for support in mental health and socio-emotional skills.
  • There is a shortage of qualified special education teachers in Finland. Without investment in research and education, support that is so greatly needed will not reach children and young people in a timely manner.
  • University of Tampere is currently the only university in Finland without a professorship in special education. Donations can strengthen the long-term development of our academic discipline and help address the nationwide shortage of special education teachers.

The work of a special education teacher is highly meaningful. It is close to the individual and at the same time supports our entire society by concretely promoting equality and inclusion. Special education teachers help ensure that no one is left behind in this rapidly developing world.
