About me

I am a Professor of Peace and Conflict Research and the Research Director of TAPRI. In the past, I have been a Research Fellow with the Academy of Finland.

I have studied and taught International Relations and International Conflict Analysis in Finland, the UK and the US.

Fields of expertise

I have a longstanding and internationally recognized expertise in the study of conflict, conflict resolution, gender and peace. My work theorizes materiality, the corporeality of human existence, everyday practices of peace and slow violence.

With my Research Group on Corporeality, Mobility and Resistance (COMPORE), I have studied amongst other things human mobility, practices of governance, agency and resistance.

My recent research interests also include human/nonhuman encounters, environmental conflicts and their transformation.
