Courses for exchange students at Tampere University

Tampere University offers a wide variety of courses taught in English with very flexible completion methods. Courses for exchange students are offered on bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level. From our course list you can find a lot of self-study courses that can be completed at any time or traditional lectures that are organised during our four different teaching periods (I-IV).

Courses offered in English for exchange students

You can search for teaching and courses available at Tampere University via the Curriculum. When browsing courses, please use the filter Target Group: Exchange Students to find courses that are open for exchange students. You should note, that our courses might have several completion options (including exam only courses, fully online courses and self-study courses). For each course and completion option, you should also check the language of instruction and the required prerequisites (if any). Use the Teaching unit or Field of study filters to find courses that match your academic background from your home university.

About our teaching periods in autumn and spring

Make sure you understand the completion options and the teaching periods when the course is organised:

  • Teaching periods I-II are in the autumn semester (August - December)
  • Teaching periods III-IV are in the spring semester (January - May)

Some courses are offered on a continuous basis as self-study options during all teaching periods, but most traditional courses with lectures will last just for one or two periods.

A preliminary study plan for your exchange application

A preliminary study plan is a requirement in the exchange studies application to Tampere University. Incoming exchange applicants make it only for guidance purposes at this stage. The new curriculum for the next academic year is usually published in summer, so the preliminary study plan may have to be created based on the ongoing or previous year's curriculum. Your final course registrations will be done closer to the start of the semester and after you have been admitted to Tampere University. Read more from the Student's Guide: Preliminary study plan for exchange students.
