The student is able to identify a wide range of issues discussed in critical approaches to peace and conflict research as well as to security studies. They include digital and visual mass surveillance practices, new patterns of political conflict fueled by digital media, the role of materiality, technology, and visuality in the understanding of peace and conflict. The student can also analyze the impact of material, technological and visual environments on issues and problems of peace, conflict and security.

Electronic Exam, autumn 2025

In this completion method, you can independently take an exam based on the course literature (5 ECTS) during the academic year, either in autumn or spring. Note! The Exam test can be completed either in Finnish or in English.In the independently completed EXAM test, the course literature is examined by answering essay-type questions within the time reserved in the EXAM room. See the section "Learning materials" for the books to be examined (two works: 3 ECTS and 2 ECTS).By registering now for the autumn, you can take the exam either in autumn 2025 or spring 2026. Note: If you choose to take the exam in spring, you must register separately for the spring implementation in Sisu. If needed, contact: mab.avoin [at] tuni.fi (mab[dot]avoin[at]tuni[dot]fi)Exams taken in June–July will be assessed in August due to summer holidays.Students complete the exam at a time of their choosing in an EXAM room.
