Tampere University’s Alum of the Year

The Alum of the Year Award is granted in recognition of achievements that have made a significant positive impact on society. This annual award is presented to an individual who has graduated from or worked at Tampere University and has achieved national or international visibility and made significant, pioneering contributions to their field. The Alum of the Year Award is given out annually to showcase the University’s broad-ranging expertise and our diverse alumni community.

Criteria for the Alum of the Year

The Alum of the Year Award is given out annually. The Alumni of the Year are people who

  • have worked or studied at a university in Tampere: the current Tampere University, the former Tampere University of Technology or the University of Tampere, or their predecessor institutions;
  • have enhanced the University’s reputation;
  • have made pioneering contributions to their professional field;
  • have made a positive impact on society in Finland or abroad;
  • have fostered interaction between the University, broader society and alumni.

 

Tampere University’s 2026 Alum of the Year

Tampere University’s Alum of the Year is Marjo Miettinen, an educational scientist, primary school teacher, and Chair of the Board at the electrical technology company Ensto Ltd. Miettinen was selected for the honour in recognition of her long-standing work in support of technology companies, business, and education. In her current role at Ensto Ltd, she advances the green transition and promotes reliable, safe electricity distribution.
