Wood construction knowledge for Tampere Region

Main objectives:
1 Develop new types of wood construction training models in wide-ranging cooperation with educational institutions and micro-
with SMEs.
2 The project develops the supply and relevance of training needed in the timber construction industry in Pirkanmaa.
3 Development of co-operation between educational institutions providing construction education in Pirkanmaa.
4 Develop co-operation with wood construction companies to ensure an adequate level of expertise. Through business cooperation
identifying the needs for competence development in the whole field to guide the content of education in general. The work consists of
through open and transparent practices organized by educational institutions, the Forest Center and Eco-Partners.
Habits are supplemented as the work progresses (e.g., possible Korona adaptation to practices).
5 Determine the training needs of procurement expertise in the municipalities of Pirkanmaa and the sales expertise of micro and small enterprises
training needs, and developing a training model to increase skills.

Goal

There is a challenge to find competent employees for small and medium wood construction companies in Finland andspecifically in Tampere Region. Companies don’t have financial possibilities to educate and train new skillful staff bythemselves.

Wood construction knowledge for Tampere Region project defines demand for education of the wood building trade incooperation with SMEs. All the education levels are considered in the project. Tampere University, TAMK University ofApplied Sciences and Tampere Vocational College Tredu are producing training programmes while taking into accountthe integrity. The pilot trainings will be tested by personnel of SMEs.

The knowhow of procurement processes of wood construction buildings is a challenge for City owned concern
companies. The regulation for low-carbon construction is getting rapidly stricter in the near future. The project will
define the present state of knowhow and set the desirable state and produce the training programme to meet the
needs.

As a result of the project construction trade will get precise education for wood construction. SMEs will get trained
personnel to face the growing need of skillful people. The cooperation processes will develop better between learning institutions, stakeholders and SMEs.
