Wireless Test Networks

Hervanta campus has different kinds of wireless test networks:

• Cellular networks
  • Part of national 5GTNF (link) research infrastructure.
  • Consists of private 4G and 5G networks:
    • Coverage in multiple locations around Hervanta campus: Tietotalo (indoor), Kampusareena (indoor), campus area (outdoor). In addition, a separate mmWave outdoor coverage area at the "backyard" of Hervanta campus in the vicinity of the automated vehicle testing area.
    • Different frequency bands: B1 (2100 MHz), B3 (1800 MHz), N77 (3.9 GHz), N78 (3.5 GHz), N257 (28 GHz), N258 (26 GHz).
    • Both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) 5G operations at N78, SA at N77, and NSA only for mmWave-5G (N257, N258).
• IoT networks
  • LoRaWAN testnetwork (part of Digita's national IoT-network)
    • Operating at ISM-band (868 MHz).
    • Indoor and outdoor coverage in the whole campus area.
  • Mesh Network (part of Wirepas Mesh Network)
    • Operating currently at ISM-band (2.4 GHz).
    • New DECT-2020 NR+ test network coming up.
