Co-funded by the European Union
Tampere Universities
Duration of project1.12.2025–30.6.2027

From Building Stock to Resource project focuses on the reuse of building materials and promoting the circular economy. The project duration is from December 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027, with the specific goal of promoting the transition to a circular economy and reusing materials in housebuilding. The main partner of the project is Ekokumppanit Oy (Circular Pirkanmaa), other project partners are Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Tampere University. Main focus group of the project are the public and private sector actors in Pirkanmaa.

The project's goal is to develop a data model that can assess the demolition potential of the building stock and the related material flows. This model helps identify reusable building materials and promotes their utilization. Additionally, the project will evaluate the cost-benefit analysis and pricing model for the reuse of building components, aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and achieve economic benefits compared to the use of virgin materials.

The role of the public actor is strengthened in the project by involving municipal organizations and developing cooperation with the private sector. This enables better data collection and its utilization in urban development and decision-making.

Furthermore, the project will cooperate closely with companies and create guidelines for the design of reusable building components, improving the quality and efficiency of design activities. Communication and advocacy work are central to the project. The goal is to promote the circular economy and widely share the project's results with various stakeholders. This helps increase awareness of the possibilities of the circular economy and encourages different actors to adopt more sustainable practices.

The added value of the project in developing the operational field is significant. It improves the reuse of materials and reduces the use of virgin materials, promoting teh transition towards carbon neutral circular economy. Additionally, the project strengthens cooperation between the public and private sectors in circular economy solutions and provides data-based support for sustainable urban development and decision-making.
