Sustainability Transformations Doctoral Education Pilot (SusTra), funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture, includes 40 doctoral researchers in 10 Finnish Universities. Research in SusTra includes interdisciplinary and solution-oriented research focusing on climate change, biodiversity loss and depletion of natural resources. Themes of research include, citizens’ lifestyles, planetary health and well-being, production and consumption, governance and law, and cultural transformations.
Two units from Tampere University’s Faculty of Management and Business (MAB) actively contribute to and receive support from the SusTra initiative: The Unit of Industrial Engineering and Management is involved through a doctoral project focusing on industrial circular and low-carbon business models in transition (Nykänen, supervised by Prof. Aarikka-Stenroos, CITER), the Unit of Business Studies contributes with research on stakeholder engagement in biodiversity-related sustainability transitions (Lappalainen, supervised by Prof. Kujala, RESPMAN).
These doctoral projects are part of the national SusTra collaboration and are further enriched by extensive cooperation with both national and international researchers, as well as stakeholders from business, industry, and society.
