Succeed in business

Tampere University of Applied Sciences
Duration of project1.5.2024–31.12.2025

The project will address an opportunity that lies in the potential of young people that can be unfolded if they undergo a substantial all-round business training, which will enable them to learn and practice entrepreneurial skills, get exposed to business environment in 3 Central Baltic countries, interact and cooperate with their peers, learn from remarkable entrepreneurs, as well as receive continuous tailor-made support at all stages on the way to company establishment and after.

Background

The project addresses cross-border challenges of high unemployment among 18-25-year-olds from low-income families in Latvia, Estonia, and Finland.Young people struggle to get jobs because employers prefer candidates with experience. Such individuals are particularly vulnerable since they are forced to earn a living from an early age and, in many cases, have to settle for low-qualified positions. This limits their potential, career growth, income, and job satisfaction. Starting a business seems a viable alternative.

Goal

The project will tackle joint cross-border challenges related to high unemployment of youth from low-income families, who are 18-25 years old and reside in Latvia (Zemgale, Riga and Riga region), Estonia (Lõuna-Eesti region) and Finland (Länsi-Suomi region). Young people often struggle to get a job and can find themselves in a long-term unemployment or NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training), situation, as employers generally prefer to hire personnel with a prior work experience. Individuals from low-income families are particularly vulnerable since they are forced to earn a living from an early age and, in many cases, have to settle for low-qualified positions. Moreover, fee-paid education is not accessible to them. As a consequence, young people with poor income are frequently unable to realise own potential, build an impressive career, earn a desired salary and achieve job satisfaction.
