The SpacEconomy project positions Finland as a forerunner in the fast-growing global space economy. The project addresses fragmentation in Finland’s space ecosystem by fostering innovation, sustainability, and collaboration across sectors. It brings together leading experts from academia, industry, and public institutions to drive economic reform, boost productivity, and improve societal welfare.
Research focuses on AI-powered satellite data applications, sustainable business models, international partnerships, and responsible regulation. The project also strengthens education and public engagement to secure long-term talent and trust in space-based technologies.
Through strategic collaboration and real-world solutions, SpacEconomy supports Finland’s global competitiveness, addresses challenges like climate change and regional disparities, and contributes to sustainable growth and resilience in an era of digital and green transition.
SpacEconomy is a part of Economy and Welfare in an Era of Strategic Competition (WELEC) research programme. The programme aims to find solutions to improve competitiveness, support sustainable economic growth in Finland while boosting productivity and society's resilience and welfare.
