SECHA is a Business Finland's Co-Innovation procet, where the research partners of the public research are Tampere University, LUT University and VTT.
The consortium forms an ecosystem including research partners and companies offering views and solutions for different part of the project scope and value chain of sector-coupled smart charging with electricity market and smart grids. Partner companies provide charging equipment, ICT systems, data access from all corners of EV charging industry and also from power systems viewpoints.
With the growing number of electric vehicles (EVs) and the shift towards renewable energy, the controllability of electricity generation decreases, while the demand for controllable electricity consumption increases. Smart charging, which takes advantage of short response times, high power capacities, predictable availability, and the natural dispersion of EVs, emerges as a crucial solution for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the power system, meeting the mobility needs of EV users, and facilitating the transition to green mobility. However, there are still unresolved issues and best practices regarding smart charging and the integration of vehicles with the grid.
The overall aim of this project is to develop technology and business models for EV charging solutions and to study how to create new values and services for end-users, technology providers and actors in the electricity market domain. The objectives are
- to define scenarios of various EV fleets
- to develop and to demonstrate charging technology solutions and methods for power management of a charging site including also V2G related issues
- to study the impacts of EV charging on power grids and power quality and possibilities for creating value on electricity and flexibility markets
- to develop and to demonstrate charging data management and systems interfaces.
