Regenerative Construction is a development project of Tampere University, which, in collaboration with the business community and the public sector, develops ways to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Background
In Finland and elsewhere in the Baltic Sea region, the climate is warming faster than the global average, and our building sector is required to develop in order to prevent harmful effects. Other challenges include increased rainfall and winds, wet winter months and, on the other hand, long periods of heat in summer.
Goal and impact
The project organizes numerous workshops with real estate and construction companies and municipalities in the Tampere region. The workshops provide information on existing solutions that mitigate the effects of climate change and develop new concepts for use by the private and public sectors. The project cooperates closely with several countries in the Baltic Sea region and seeks international examples of solutions that also work in Finland.
The development work will result in a Regenerative Building Handbook, which presents the best solutions for use by the real estate and construction industries and the public sector.
Funding
The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) granted by the Council of Tampere Region and is Co-Funded by the European Union. The project is also funded by Tampere University. The funding is 188 816 € with the European Union funding 132 170 € of the total sum.
