Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR) is a multi- and interdisciplinary research unit based in physics, chemistry, meteorology, forest sciences, environmental sciences and social sciences. The research infrastructure in INAR is called INAR RI.

INAR RI is coordinated by Helsinki University and it has network partners in Finnish Meteorological Institute, University of Eastern Finland and Tampere University. Our departmet of Physics is involved in the work carried out by INAR RI.

INAR aims to strengthen the internationally leading, integrated multidisciplinary research and education environment for atmospheric and Earth system science and to feed in scientific results for the national and international environment and climate policy. It performs multiscale research from molecular to global scale and focuses on climate change, air quality, biogeochemical cycles and ecosystem processes.

Through INAR RI, Tampere University is also participating in ACTRIS, the European Research Infrastructure for the observation of Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases. ACTRIS serves a vast community of users working on atmospheric research, climate and Earth system and air quality models, satellite retrievals, weather analysis and forecast systems by offering high quality data and research infrastructure services for atmospheric aerosols, clouds, and trace gases.
