Tampere University, School of Architecture, is one of eight partners involved in the Interreg project, FutureECOS – Future-proof Living Space in Growth Corridor Regions. The project examines four European regions situated between national and international growth poles, analyzing their challenges and opportunities in creating resilient economies. The key concept, “Future-proof Living Spaces,” aims to enhance the appeal of living environments in these regions by developing integrated strategies for housing and living solutions that address, e.g, digitalization, ecological sustainability, social justice, and inclusivity.

The initiative advocates for multi-sectorial implementation at both policy and practical levels, fostering collaboration between public authorities, private stakeholders, and diverse demographic groups. The project explores the socio-geographic positioning of growth corridor regions and promotes regional and interregional learning on the environmental, economic, and social implications of developing resilient living spaces. It develops multi-level policies that engage citizens in the democratic design of future-proof living spaces.

Aligned with the New European Bauhaus (NEB) objectives, which aim to connect the Green Deal to living spaces and experiences, the partners seek to implement concrete changes to policy instruments that can drive smart, sustainable, and inclusive development within the regions. Once these changes are achieved, they monitor the significant impact of policy shifts on regional development indicators related to future-proof living.
