BioReno

Tampere University
Duration of project1.4.2025–31.12.2027

The vision of the BioReno Co-research project is to create opportunities for Finnish companies by developing high-performance bio-based materials and hybrid structural solutions with low environmental impact for renovation construction.

You can find out more about BioReno on the Building Physics Research Group's website.

Goal

The main goal of the BioReno Co-research project is to develop new bio-based and low-carbon construction products for the renovation of ventilated roofs and exterior walls. More specifically, the aim is to combine the latest scientific expertise of three research institutes (TAU, XAMK and VTT) to develop and demonstrate sustainable, moisture- and fire-safe and cost-effective additional thermal insulation solutions for renovation with bio-based and natural materials. The purpose of this development is to increase the opportunities for the participating companies to enter the fast-growing sustainable renovation market through a new innovative concept.

Impact

The global market potential of renovation is expected to evolve with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency as consumers become more environmentally conscious. Therefore, new innovations in materials and construction technology also play a crucial role in shaping the future of the renovation industry. The solutions developed at BioReno offer great business opportunities for the companies involved in this rapidly growing market.
