Matti Mäntysalo

I am a professor of electronics working to redefine the materials, fabrication methods, and form factors of electronic systems. My research explores how printed and additive technologies, novel thin‑film processes, and system integration can reshape how electronics are designed, manufactured, and used by reducing material consumption, energy use, and reliance on critical or harmful materials.

Rather than optimising individual components in isolation, my work focuses on rethinking electronics at the system level. By working closely with industry, I aim to ensure that new ideas move beyond the laboratory into scalable manufacturing and real electronic products, translating changes in mindset into practical and societal impact.
