About me

Katja Joronen, PhD, RN, works as a Professor (Nursing Science) at Tampere University, Faculty of Social Sciences, in the Unit of Health Sciences since August 2025. Her main research line focuses on health promotion, particularly the health and well-being of children, adolescents, and families at the individual, community, societal, and global levels. She explores health and health-related choices, their determinants, health literacy, and health communication in everyday environments such as families, schools, and health and social services.

Together with her research team, Joronen conducts interdisciplinary, multi-method, and co-creative research projects. Her current research interests include mental health and peer support in social media environments, as well as the health and support needs of young carers. Joronen is also increasingly engaged in themes related to planetary health.
