About me
At Tampere University, I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the NewWorkTech project, in which we research the realities of working lives of employees with a disability and neurodivergent employees. In this role, my current research revolves around the exploration of interactional practices of neurodivergent participants and methodological questions of fieldwork. Additionally, I am responsible for the data collection and the analysis of the German-speaking data. Together with our research assistants, I'm building a corpus of the Finnish and German data sets. Generally, I am interested in the interplay of body, material environment and languages; I use ethnographic methods and multimodal interaction analysis. Before moving to Finland, I studied and worked at different universities in Germany and the UK. I received funding for research stays in Sweden (2020) and Norway (2022).
In my PhD project, I collected video data of interactions in multilingual families living in Scandinavia and investigated meaning-making processes in their plurilingual interactions, i.e., how the family members achieved understanding when using several languages. Additonally, I looked into the children's use of pragmatic and multimodal resources to learn more about their language socialisations. Recently, I have been working on the use of the particles m᷉m and mhm together with Paul Sbertoli-Nielsen (USN).
I teach courses for BA and MA students, supervise theses, and work on topics related to SoTL such as future skills development, active teaching methods, and teaching academic writing in the AI age.
