About me

Álvaro Corredor Ochoa, MSc in Architecture, is a doctoral researcher and specialist in urban sustainability regulation and transit-oriented developments (TODs). After completing his studies in architecture with a focus on urban planning, he worked across multiple European architectural fields, including interior and retail design, landscape architecture, temporary structures, urban design, and construction management. He also founded his own architectural studio and participated in international architectural and urban competitions.

Following five years of professional practice, he pursued a postgraduate degree in environmental and bioclimatic architecture, which led to research positions at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).

Álvaro is currently completing his doctoral dissertation at Tampere University, where he analyses sustainability indicators applied to TODs. His research introduces residential capacity as a novel indicator of urban sustainability and proposes a regulatory framework linking indicators to different phases of the urban life cycle. This work has positioned him as an expert in urban sustainability assessment and policy-making.

He has completed the European Climate-KIC Pioneers into Practice programme and has been a visiting researcher at Coventry City Council, the City of Vantaa’s Urban Planning Department, and the Technical University of Madrid.

Between 2020 and 2022, he had a gap in his research career, and worked for Posti Group OYj as a shop steward representing more than 1000 workers in Uusimaa Region. During this time he came back to deal with immigration issues as he did in his Master Thesis in Architecture. He has been an influencer and active person in the Industrial Union (Teollisuusliitto) and has spezialised in inmigration issues.
