The School of Professional Teacher Education offers teacher education in English and in Finnish and also Professional Special Needs Teacher Education and Professional Guidance Counsellor Education.

The School develops pedagogy for upper secondary vocational institutions, universities of applied sciences and learning environments of working life. We are interested in professional learning as well as different viewpoints of teaching and counselling phenomena.

The professional teacher education programme taught in English is for professionals who wish to teach in English and/or who are not proﬁcient in the Finnish language. The extent of the studies is 60 credits.

We also offer continuing education for individuals and tailored education services for companies and communities based on our customers´ needs.

A research network of Finnish vocational and professional teacher education colleges

Departments and schools of vocational and professional teacher education in universities of applied sciences (UAS) have established a research group, the role of which is to promote interdisciplinary, high-quality, and current applied research to develop work-related learning and education. Its aim is that teacher education will be desired, active, and respected research and development partners, both nationally and internationally.

Tasks of the professional and vocational teacher education research group

Improve the visibility and usability of work-oriented learning and vocational education research and its results, as well as disseminate new and up-to-date information, action plans, research results and good practices to further develop vocational learning and education (VET).
Promote and develop professional competence development, work-related learning and applied research on VET, as well as research cooperation between teacher education units. Points of focus are education in VET and in universities of applied sciences; vocational learning; pedagogy; vocational education and learning in working life and the importance of digitalisation in learning and education.
Promote and strengthen the research-based development of vocational education (VET), learning in working life and vocational and professional teacher education.
Strengthen national and international networking with universities, businesses, research institutes and communities in terms of research priorities.
Increase the attractiveness and appreciation of vocational and professional teaching as a profession.
Promote and activate societal interaction and discussion to influence decision-making regarding vocational and professional education and education in UAS.
