LABS Laboratory services

LABS Laboratory Services at the MET Faculty provide professional laboratory services to university research groups and ensure the smooth operation of laboratories and research and teaching infrastructure. MET LABS is responsible for managing facilities and equipment and overseeing resource needs, including both personnel and facilities.

LABS duties include:

•    Providing basic laboratory orientation and training
•    Ensuring laboratory safety in cooperation with research groups
•    Monitoring environmental conditions (e.g. gases, temperature)
•    Maintaining standard laboratory supplies in corridor cabinets and bulk chemicals in balance rooms
•    Operating the Order Center
•    Conducting freezer on-call surveillance outside working hours (3:45 pm–8:00 am, including weekends and holidays)
•    Managing laboratory materials and supplies
•    Maintaining workwear
•    Ensuring gas and air supplies (e.g. CO₂, N₂, mixture gases, liquid nitrogen, liquid gas and compressed air)
•    Managing sample storages, including maintenance of −80 °C deep freezers, and liquid nitrogen freezers (freezers for use in laboratory floors and in Cold Farm)
•    Instrument maintenance (GLP service), including washing, autoclaving, and sterilization; biological waste autoclaving
•    Supplying distilled and purified water
•    Managing and maintenance of laboratory devices: service contracts, scheduling services and repairs, and disposal of devices
•    Commissioning and replacing basic laboratory equipment
•    Maintaining the chemical registry (EcoBiomanager)
•    Maintaining the device registry (Metlabs registry)
•    Managing hazardous waste
•    Operating the preclinical unit
•    Providing several core laboratory services
