The ideas of Brazilian pedagogical activist and thinker Paolo Freire (1921-1997) have influenced practices and theories in education and social work world-wide. Especially through his book “Pedagogy of Oppressed”, concepts such as conscientization, pedagogy of liberation, dialogue have been adopted especially in popular adult education. Professor Rosaria Helena Ruiz Nakashima from University of Tocantins, Brazil, will provide an introduction about the meaning and relevance of Paolo Freire in the context of Brazil. In the event, participants are invited to discuss about the heritage and contemporary meaning of Freire in other contexts, especially in Finland.
